THE moment of truth in the inaugural 2008 Telikom Media Pool competition will be revealed tomorrow as minor premier Paul Paraka Spin Doctors and Cool Graphics Wokabout fight for supremacy in the grand final for the Telikom Cup.
Team National and the ‘sago boys’ Poi Nangu will challenge for third ranking at the media fraternity’s hotly contested sporting events.
Bookmakers’ favourite Spin Doctors, who pocketed K1,000 cash and the IBS Trophy for finishing the season at the top of the points table, will be looking to carry on the form into the crunch match against the equally determined Wokabaout.
Spin Doctor’s captain Dominic Krau acknowledged that their opponents were tough but his camp were confident of lifting the coveted Telikom Cup.
“We respect our opponents but we are confident of pulling off the big one, given the quality of players we have in the team,” Krau said.
Krau also thanked their sponsor Paul Paraka Lawyers for their support.
Wokabaout skipper Joe Kaiyo said his team made their way up from the bottom eight and have the potential to go further.
“Our opponents were very good and we respected them. We are here because of our self-belief and we believe that can take us through tomorrow,” Kaiyo said.
Best male player, best female player and the overall player of the competition as voted by their peers after each match throughout the competition will be recognised.
The player of the competition trophy is sponsored by NBC and managing director Joe Ealadona has named it the Bunam Lakasa Trophy after the late Morobean colleague.
The organising committee has confirmed the cash prizes and awards for the grand final day as follows:Major premiers – K3,000 and Telikom Cup; runners-ups K2,000 and PicknBuy24.com Trophy; minor premiers – K1,000 and IBS Trophy; third place – K1,500, fourth place – K1,000, fifth and sixth – K600; and, seventh and eight – K500 each.
The rest of the teams in the competitions will each receive consolidation cash prizes of K400 each.
